The 56 meter long, 1060 dwt freighter Havgløtt went aground at Hustadneset, Norway. The freighter was en route from Molde to Kristiansund with a cargo of sand and stone when it grounded.  The three crew on board contacted authorities and later the same day, the crew were able to refloat the vessel on the rising tide.  The Havgløtt proceeded to Molde.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The cause of the grounding was not reported.

The 91 meter long, 4500 dwt freighter Zelek Star went aground on the Dnieper River off Karantinniy Island, Ukraine.  The vessel had departed from Kherson bound for Constanta with 4452 tons of ammonium sulphate in its hold.  As the Zelek Star headed out to the Black Sea when it grounded in the estuary off the island.  The crew requested assistance and a tug was dispatched to help refloat the freighter.   No reports of injuries to the 13 crew on board, damage or pollution released.

Markborg

The 135 meter long, 9200 dwt freighter Markborg suffered damage while transiting the Kiel Canal near Rendsburg, Germany.  The Markborg had sustained engine damage resulting in thick dense clouds of smoke belching out of the vessel’s stack.  The water police was alerted, but they allowed the Markborg to proceed under its own power to Brunsbüttel where it later moored awaiting repairs.  No reports of injuries.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.  The master of Markborg may be charged or fined by authorities for releasing pollution causing environmental damage.
