EDMY

The 86 meter long, 3750 dwt freighter Edmy suffered a fire while anchored off Stellendam, Netherlands.  The fire started in the engine room resulting in dense smoke. The KNRM lifeboats were alerted of the situation, but the  crew was able to get the fire under control.    The Edmy continued to Rotterdam with assistance by two tugs. No reports of injuries to the eight crew and no pollution released.  The Edmy was to proceed to a shipyard for repairs.   The Edmy was  en route to Lillesand from Antwerp.

Shu Hang 998

Shu Hang 998

The 53 meter long freighter Shu Hang 998 sank in the South China Sea in Typhoon Haiyan near Sanya, China.  The Shu Hang 998 had dropped anchor off Sanya Port planning to ride out the storm.   During the strong winds and large waves, the vessel’s mooring lines snapped.   The storm pushed the vessel away from Sanya before it was overwhelmed and foundered.   The seven crew on board were initially reported missing.  Rescues efforts the following day recovered two bodies.

Tomi Elegance

The 667 dwt coastal freighter Tomi Elegance went ashore by strong waves caused by Typhoon Haiyan in Tacloban city, Philippines.  Another unidentified freighter also went ashore next to the Tomi Elegance. The bow of the freighter sustained bow damage.  Both vessels rest several hundred meters from the shoreline.  No further details reported.
