On the night of December 3, the 97 meter long, 5,035 dwt  cargo vessel Hua De 858 (MMSI: 413201510) broke-in-two in Xinghua Bay off the coast of Fuzhou, China. The Hua De 858 departed on November 28 with a full load of cargo bound to Haikou from Fuzhou. As the cargo vessel passed  between Xiaori Island and Daheyu Island, the Hua De 858 struck bottom on a shoal.  The grounding resulted in structural failure to the hull broken apart amidships.  Chinese authorities were alerted and deployed a rescue team to the scene.  All 12 crew on board the vessel would be safely evacuated and transported to shore.  No reports of injuries.

Authorities have broadcasted an advisory for vessels to keep distance from the Hua De 858.  An investigation into the incident and structural failure is ongoing. Reports state the Hua De 858 was launched in 2008.

On October 8, the 84 meter long cargo vessel Fu Shun 67 capsized and sank near the entrance to the Minjiang River off Fuzhou, China. The Fu Shun 67 was proceeding with a cargo of steel when it lost stability. The steel cargo had shifted and the cargo vessel developed a heavy list. The vessel sent out a distress call and requested assistance. Authorities dispatched a helicopter and rescue ship to the scene. Before rescuers could reach the Fu Shun 67, the 10 crew abandoned ship just before the vessel rolled over and sank. Rescuers arrived on scene and eventually were able to rescue all 10 crew. No reports of injuries.

The 160 meter long, 14395 dwt cargo ship Ana sank just off shore of Lianjiang Road, Fuzhou, China.  The Ana been at anchor off Lianjiang since July 8 when the cargo ship had become disabled in heavy seas.   The disabled Ana tried to ride out the storm surge as Typhoon Matmo passed near the area, but the vessel’s anchor dragged.  As the Ana was being blown ashore, the crew sent out a distress call.  Chinese authorities dispatched helicopters to the scene.  All 17 crewmen on the Ana were listed to safety.  No reports of injuries.
