Midia 24

Midia 24

The 60 meter long, 1500 dwt tender vessel Midia 24 went aground in the Black Sea off Pitsunda, Georgia.   The small vessel had been at anchor when rough weather caused the anchor to drag allowing the Midia 24 to go ashore.   The Midia 24 suffered hull damage allowing water ingress into the hold.   There was no cargo on board.  All five crewmen on board were safely rescued and no reports of injuries.  There is some concern about pollution coming from a possible fuel leak.   The Midia 24 has been involved hauling sand-gravel to Sochi as part of the Olympic Games construction.

Gregory Petrovsky Sinks

The freighter Grigoriy Petrovskiy (Gregory Petrovsky) sank at the port of Poti, Georgia during a strong storm.   The vessel had lost control during the storm and struck a pier causing the hull nearly to break-in-two.   The vessel also holed in one of its tanks resulting in water ingress.    All 11 crew members onboard were rescued.    The Greogry Petrovsky has released pollution into the port.    The pollution is most likely from the 35 tons of fuel onboard when the vessel sank.   Reports state the vessel had no cargo onboard when the storm struck.
