On January 31, the 110 meter long self-propelled barge Atoll (MMSI: 211173200)  ran aground on the Main River near Karlstadt, Germany. The Atoll was en route to Ghent from Duisburg when it veered out of the navigation channel and became wedged between the two banks of the river.  Multiple tugs were dispatched and were able to refloat the vessel the following morning. The water police had halted traffic in the area during the incident. No reports of injuries or pollution released.  There were no reports if there was any damage to the Atoll. News reports state strong river currents may have caused the incident.

On the morning of January 23, the 18 meter long fishing vessel SAS 107 Crampas (MMSI: 211474000) became disabled in the Baltic Sea some 5 nautical miles off Rügen, Germany. The SAS 107 Crampas had suffered engine failure and went adrift in choppy seas with winds reaching gusts up to 74 kilometers/hour. The fishing vessel sent out a distress call with the DGZRS dispatching the 36 meter long rescue boat Harro Koebke (IMO: 9606625) to assist. The Harro Koebke, aided by the 27 meter long salvage vessel Arkona (IMO: 8646379), established a towline and towed the Crampas safely to Sassnitz.  No reports of injuries to the 3 crew, damage or pollution released.

On the early afternoon of January 18, the 146 meter long, 10872 dwt cargo vessel FWN Atlantide (IMO: 9535620) was the first vessel to approach the southern lock on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The lock had been damaged a few days before by the container ship Nordic Porto on January 16. The FWN Atlantide was headed for Rostock from Aliaga when it entered the southern lock and it allided with the tail structure of the lock.  Reports state the vessel was detained a few hours while an investigation into the incident was conducted. The FWN Atlantide was allowed to proceed on its voyage later that same afternoon.  No reports on the extent of damage, there were any injuries or pollution released.
