On September 28, the 39.5 meter long passenger ship Schwerin (MMSI: 218027930) ran aground on Lake Schwerin near Leezen, Germany. The vessel was on a cruise with 50 persons on board when wind caused the vessel to drift towards the shore and onto a sandbar. The passenger ship was unable to free itself and requested a tug. A few hours later the tug arrived and was able to free the Schwerin. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Schwerin proceeded under its own power to a pier in Schwerin.

On August 21, the 85 meter long self-propelled barge Tokaj 2 allided with a bridge near Winzer, Germany. The Tokaj 2 was proceeding on the Danube when a strong current pushed the vessel against one of the bridge piers. The master of the Tokaj 2 reported the incident and berthed at a nearby quay. Both the Tokaj 2 and the bridge sustained some damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Authorities have detained the Tokaj 2 until it could be inspected.

On August 21, the 12 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry St. Michael (MMSI:211664940) became disabled on the Rhine at Hitdorf, Germany. The St. Michael suffered a mechanical breakdown with the failure of the vessel’s gearbox. The ferry was taken out of service until repairs can be completed. Reports state the St. Michael should be inspected and back in service within a few days. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
