On October 7, the 85 meter long, 3577 dwt cargo vessel Gotland (IMO: 9411824) ran aground in the Kylerhea near the Isle of Skye, Scotland. The Gotland was en route to Belfast from Wolgast when it nearly ran ashore.  The Coastguard was alerted and RNLI lifeboats from Kyle and Portree responded. The lifeboats found the Gotland hard aground but in stable condition. A tug was requested and was on standby until the cargo vessel was refloated on the next high tide. The vessels proceeded to Glenelg Bay where the Gotland anchored.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The cause of the grounding was not reported.

The 99 meter long, 3179 dwt bulk freighter Scot Isles became disabled in rough weather in the Baltic Sea between Gotland, Sweden and Latvia.   The vessel was en route to Liepaja from Riga with a cargo of timber when the cargo shifted resulting in a 15 degree list to starboard.   The vessel sent out a distress call with the Swedish Coast Guard responding.   The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene and was able to make contact with the crew.   The master of the vessel refused to evacuate the seven crew on board preferring to continue towards Liepaja.  A Latvian rescue ship was dispatched to help escort the Scot Isles once it entered its territorial waters.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Gotland Collision

Gotland Collision

The 131 meter long, 7992 dwt container ship Conmar Elbe collided with the 134 meter long, 12007 dwt freighter Falshoeft near Faro, Gotland, Sweden.  The Falshoeft suffered damage to its bow above the waterline while the Conmar Elbe suffered some dents to its stern.   No reports of injuries on either vessel.   Both vessels were inspected by the Coast Guard and were allowed to continue to the destinations.  The Falshoeft proceeded to Antwerp while the Conmar Elbe continued to St. Petersburg.
