BBC Maple Lea

The 138 meter long, 12700 dwt cargo vessel BBC Maple Lea ran aground on Lake Saint-Louis near Île Saint-Nicolas, Quebec. The BBC Maple Lea sustained damage to its bow thruster releasing some oil into the water. No reports of injuries. Tugs were dispatched to the scene and the cargo vessel was freed the following day. Reports state the BBC Maple Lea was loaded with a cargo of scrap.

On October 21, the 222 meter long, 26365 dwt self-unloading bulk carrier Frontenac ran aground in the Detroit River near Belle Isle Michigan. The bulk carrier remained aground until the following day until it could be refloated by the assistance of two tugs.  The Frontenac proceeded to an anchorage off Belle Isle for further inspection. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The cause of the grounding was not reported.

The 603 foot long self-unloader bulk carrier Mississagi ran aground on the St. Marys River near De Tour Village, Michigan. The Mississagi had departed from Bruce Mines, Ontario with a cargo of stone when it ran onto a shoal in Potagannissing Bay. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution. The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter and boats from Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace. Reports state marine inspectors will inspect the vessel for damage while the crew of the Mississagi works with a salvage company to refloat the bulk carrier.
