The tour boat/launch Ruth allided with the lock wall at Ellerholzbrucke Lock in Hamburg, Germany.    The Ruth was proceeding into the lock when the motor’s throttle stuck sending the vessel full speed into the lock.   Twelve people were injured as they were thrown from their seats with most receiving bruises and abrasions.   Local EMS responded and the injured passengers were sent to hospital as a precaution.  A local fire boat arrived on scene and took the Ruth under tow to a nearby dock.   No reports of pollution being released.   The water police are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Tugs Collide

The 26 meter long, 108 dwt tug Bugsier 14 collided with a 65 meter barge being pushed by the 242 meter long towboat Schubexpress 10 on the Elbe River near Neumühlen, Germany.  The barge had a gash along its hull while the stern of the Bugiser 14 suffered some damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  The authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.

The 85 meter long self-propelled barge Hamburg went aground on the Ijssel River near Zutphen, Netherlands.   The vessel was riding high as it was proceeding with no cargo when it approached a bridge.   The vessel would not be able to pass safely underneath the bridge when the Hamburg suffered an engine failure.   The master swerved the Hamburg away from the bridge and went aground.   The Hamburg was refloated later the same day.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
