Hanse Courage

The 140 meter long container ship Hanse Courage became disabled in the Kiel Canal after passing through the Brunsbuettel locks.   The Hanse Courage had suffered engine problems,  but reached Fischerhutte where it requested assistance.   A tug arrived on scene and assisted the Hanse Courage towards Kiel.  When the vessels reached Oldenbuettel, the Hanse Courage required additional assistance with a second tug requested.   The trio reached Rendsburg where the Hanse Courage berthed.  The crew was able to make repairs and the container ship proceeded through the canal reaching the Baltic Sea.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Three Allisions at Brunsbuettel

Three vessels suffered an allision while tranversing the northern lock on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbuettel.  The 14200 dwt container vessel struck the construction first.  Neither the lock or the vessel suffered any damage.  Next the 89 meter long, 3714 dwt freighter Nordgard hit the construction works.  The Nordgard and the lock was undamaged. Finally, the 140 meter long, 11023 dwt container ship Hanse Courage missed the construction and struck the gate.  The Hanse Courage had minimal damage, but the lock gate was damaged.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released in all three incidents.
