The 146 meter long, 15441 dwt tanker Skledros broke free of its mooring lines during a severe storm while berthed at Hirtshals, Denmark.  The storm’s wind pushed the vessel from the quay breaking the bollards out of the concrete.   Tugs and rescue craft were launched to get the vessel under control.  Reports state there was no one on board the vessel at the time.   No further details reported.

Collision off Hirtshals

The 172 dwt trawler HG 244 Perina collided with the wooden trawler Helle FN 64 off the Hirtshals, Denmark.   The Perina was heading into the sun which blinded the masters view when the struck the Helle on its starboard side.   The Helle suffered significant damage with broken planks and ribs.  One crewman also was slightly injured on the Helle.  The Helle was able to return to harbor at Hirtshals.   Reports state repairs on Helle may take several months.  The Perina suffered minor damage.

HQ 280 Tucana Sinks

HQ 280 Tucana Sinks

The 33 meter long 264 ton fishing vessel HG 280 Tucana was fishing off  Hirtshals, Denmark when water was discovered in the engine room.   The four crewmen on board started the pumps to control the water ingress.   However, the pumps could not keep up and the crew prepared to abandon ship.   The men put their survival suits on and inflated the liferaft from the wheelhouse.   They proceeded to the liferaft leaving personal items behind on the fishing vessel.  The 4 men watched the HG 280 Tucana sink below the waves.   Luckily, the crew was rescued an hour later by the fishing vessel Kjølpens.    A rescue helicopter was also on scene, but turned back as the 4 men were safely aboard the Kjølpens.  The Denmark Navy vessel Rota is monitoring for pollution at the position where the Tucana sank.
