On the morning of January 8, the 15 meter long service boat Frøylys (MMSI: 257844600) ran aground on the Hjertøysundet near Hitra, Norway. The Frøylys was en route to Frøy when it stranded off Dolmøya. The vessel sustained hull damage forward with a hole on the starboard side allowing water ingress. The vessel alerted authorities with the NSSR dispatched the rescue boat Horn Flyer to assist. Dewatering pumps were deployed which was able to control the flooding.

Reports state the two crew on the Frøylys were uninjured.  The owners stated salvage operations were underway.

The 52 meter long, 750 dwt freighter Scan Trans became disabled off the island of Hitra, Norway.   The Scan trans had damaged its rudder and was unable to drop anchor.  The Scan Trans was assisted by the fishing vessel Smaragd before a NSSR lifeboat took the vessel under tow.   The vessels proceeded to Hestvika where the Scan Trans safely moored.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.
