The 225 meter long, 58136 dwt LPG tanker BW Maple collided with the 181 meter long, 44885 dwt tanker Dawn Kanchipuram in the Bay of Bengal near Kamaraiar, Chennai, India. The Dawn Kanchipuram was heading towards the port with a cargo of diesel fuel and lube oil when it was struck amidships by the BW Maple which had left port in ballast. The BW Maple’s bow struck just in front of the superstructure on the portside hull.

The Dawn Kanchipuram’s hull was breached and several tons of oil pollution was released into the sea. No reports of injuries. Officials stated the Dawn Kanchipuram proceeded to port and unloaded its cargo.

The small coastal bulk carrier Kumar became disabled off Mumbai, India. The Kumar, loaded with iron ore, suffered flooding while off the coast. The bulk carrier was partially submerged at the bow and was in danager of capsizing. The crew requested assistance with the India Coast Guard dispatching a helicopter to the scene. The helicopter dropped de-watering pumps  and were able to assist the crew to stabilize the Kumar. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 95 meter long, 5324 dwt hopper dredger Hansita V ran aground near Kollam, India. Strong winds caused the vessel’s anchor to drag and the Hansita V ran ashore on Mundakkal beach.  No reports of injuries. The dredger had been at anchor off Kollam since 2013 and no reports of any crew on board at the time of the incident. Reports state the owners have asked local authorities to refloat the dredger and move it further off the coast.
