On September 28. the 63 meter long, 1202 dwt cargo vessel Sabuk Nusantara 39 washed ashore at Palu, Sulawesi, Indonesia. The Sabuk Nusantara 39 had been moored at the dock when the vessel was struck by an 6 meter tsunami wave.  All the mooring lines holding the Sabuk Nusantara 39 snapped and the wave pushed the cargo vessel inland. The Sabuk Nusantara 39 was carried over the road and crashed into building supporting the port.  Reports state several buildings were damaged and the Sabuk Nusantara 39 had sustained some hull damage.  No details if there was any injuries or pollution released due to the earthquake and tsunami damage.

On September 26, the ro-ro passenger and cargo ferry Sabuk Nusantara 35 ran aground off Singkil, Sumatra, Indonesia. The Sabuk Nusantara 35 had departed from Singkil bound for Banjak Islands when it suffered engine failure.  Without power the Sabuk Nusantara 35  drifted off course and stranded just 200 meters off the shoreline. No reports of injuries to the 12 passengers and 20 crew on board. Passengers were later evacuated back to the port.

On September 14, the ferry KM Fungka Permata V caught fire and sank in the Banda Sea off Banggai Island, Indonesia. The ferry had over 120 persons on board when a fire broke out while en route to Banggai.  Little details reported about the incident, but some 126 people were rescued.  A report states 10 people perished in the blaze and an additional 8 were missing. However, there is confusion to the number of passengers that were actually on board the Fungka Permata V.  The manifest states less than 100 passengers which makes the numbers unreliable.
