On the early morning hours of August 26, a string of barges allided on the Mississippi River near Keokuk, Iowa. The barges being pushed by an undisclosed towboat was heading north when it struck the bridge connecting Keokuk, Iowa and Hamilton, Illinois.

The Coast Guard stated there was no damage or injuries from the incident. Reports stated that some cargo crates had fallen overboard, but were later recovered. There has been on official release of the towboat’s name involved in the incident. Some speculation on social media suggests the towboat was the 39 meter long Bernard G (MMSI: 367505650), but this could not be confirmed.

The 44 meter towboat Dottie Strait allided with a bridge on the Mississippi River near Clinton, Iowa. Around midnight, the Dottie Strait had struck the Sabula Railroad Bridge. Authorities closed the bridge and nearby traffic on the river was halted until the bridge could be surveyed by divers. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On July 23, the 32 meter long paddle-wheel passenger ship Lady of the Lake caught fire just as it berthed at Clear Lake, Iowa. The fire when a wood column ignited by the exhaust from the vessel’s generator.  The 100 people on board were able to be safely evacuated off the vessel to shore.  No reports of injuries.  The fire was extinguished by the crew.  Reports state damage to be estimated around $7,500.
