On the morning of December 14, the 28 meter long, 345 gt  fishing vessel Fastnet (IMO: 9244465) ran aground in the Dingle Bay near Binn Bán beach outside of outside Cuan an Daingin, County Kerry, Ireland. The Fastnet had departed from Dingle Harbour in poor conditions with heavy seas when it suffered engine failure. The trawler went adrift and sent out a distress call.  Irish Coast Guard responded by dispatching a fixed wing aircraft along with a rescue helicopter while the RNLI launched the 17 meter long lifeboat John and Margaret Doig (MMSI: 232002460)  from the Valentia Island.

The RNLI lifeboat assisted by local boats arrived on scene.  The vessels attempted to connect a towline to the trawler, but were unsuccessful. Before any further attempts to save the Fastnet could be made, the trawler was blown ashore onto the rocks. Unconfirmed reports state the trawler sustained hull damage and potentially to the fuel tanks.

A rescue helicopter would later safely hoist all 14 crew off the Fastnet.  The crew were taken ashore and were evaluated for injuries by emergency personnel. Authorities have initiated an environmental response plan to the incident. Salvage teams have been engaged to mitigate diesel fuel released. The extent of damage and the amount of pollution released has not been disclosed.

On the early morning of October 22, the 35 meter long fishing vessel Radoche Tercero (IMO: 8968519) suffered water ingress in the Irish Sea some 55 nautical miles southwest of Castletown, Ireland. The flooding, possibly caused by a hull breach, could not be controlled by the vessel’s pumps. The Radoche Tercero sent out a distress call before abandoning ship. The Irish Coast Guard dispatched vessels along with the nearby 36 meter long fishing vessel Puenteareas Uno (IMO: 9194189) responded.  The Puenteareas Uno safely rescued all 12 crew members of the Radoche Tercero and transport them to Castletown. No reports of injuries. Reports on October 22 stated the Radoche Tercero had later sunk.

The 17 meter long trawler Ludovic Geoffray W202 became disabled after suffering water ingress while off Howth, Ireland.  The trawler with seven crewmen on board contacted the RNLI who dispatched their all-weather lifeboat from Howth.   The lifeboat reached the scene and took the trawler under tow.   An Irish Coast Guard helicopter reached the scene and was able to winch down a dewatering pump to the Ludovic Geoffray.   Weather conditions made the rescue effort difficult with force six winds and a three meter swell.   The towline between the lifeboat and trawler parted several times, but both vessel were able to reach Howth harbour 10 hours later.    No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
