On the morning of August 8, the 100 meter long, 8501 dwt cargo vessel Sward (IMO: 9174244) became disabled in the Istanbul strait near the breakwater off Haydarpaşa, Turkey. The Sward was headed for Yemen from Zonguldak when it suffered a mechanical breakdown and went adrift. The vessel contacted authorities with KEGM dispatching two tugs to the scene. The tugs Kurtarma 5 (IMO: 9463164) and Kurtarma 7 (IMO: 9598608) which took the Sward under tow.  The vessels proceeded to the Ahırkapı Anchorage where the cargo vessel safely moored. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Elena B Disabled

The 25,956 dwt freighter Elena B became disabled in the Instanbul Strait after loosing power near the Topkapi Palace.   Two tugs and a Coast Guard rescue boat were dispatched to the scene.  The Elena B was taken under tow to a safe anchorage.   At the time of the incident, there was no pilot on board.   No reports of injury or damage.
