Chun Xing

The 69 meter long, 1552 dwt freighter Chun Xing caught fire in the Sea of Japan near Kobe, Japan.   The Chun Xing had departed Kobe bound for China with 948 tons of scrap when a fire broke out in the cargo hold.   The crew requested assistance with the Japanese Coast Guard responding.   Several patrol boats arrived on scene and assisted the crew in controlling the blaze.  The vessel returned to port where  it took several more hours to extinguish the fire.    No reports of injuries to the nine crew on board.  No further details reported.

Akanett

Akanett

The 52 meter long, 828 dwt fishing vessel Akanett became disabled off Hokkaido, Japan.  The Akanett had suffered engine failure while a gale was blowing in the area with waves up to 5 meters high.  The crew requested assistance from the Japanese Coast Guard.   The Coast Guard dispatched a salvage tug to the scene which took the Alanett under tow.   The vessels proceeded to Hakodate, Hokkaido.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Ming Yang

Ming Yang

The 12703 gt reefer Ming Yang caught fire near Okinawa, Japan.  The vessel had suffered an explosion from the main engine resulting starting the fire.   The crew were forced to seek shelter in the bow section as the stern became engulf in thick smoke.  Some 21 crew were able to escape into a life raft while the remaining 43 awaited on deck.   The Japan Coast Guard responded sending patrol vessels and aircraft to the scene.   All the crew were safely rescued with three suffering minor injuries.  Reports state the vessel was en route to China from South America.  The owners of Ming Yang have arranged salvage of the vessel.
