Collision off Hokkaido

The fishing vessel Wen Chun collided with the fishing vessel Guoji 909 off Nemuro, Hokkaido, Japan.  The Guoji 909 broke up and sank after the collision.   The 40 crewmen on the Guoji 909 were rescued by the Wen Chun.   No reports of injuries.   The Wen Chun is proceeding to a port on Hokkaido.

Hsiehyi No. 6 Missing

Hsiehyi No. 6 Missing

The 73 ton fishing vessel Hsiehyi No. 6 has gone missing since last making contact on September 8, 2011.   The Hsiehyi No. 6 was last reported fishing some 350 miles southeast off Okinawa, Japan.   Typically, the fishing vessel would contact the owners once per week.   A strong typhoon in the area has prevented any search by authorities to be conducted.    Owners have contacted other fishing vessels in the area to conduct a search for the missing vessel.   The Hsiehyi No. 6 was reported to have eight men on board.

Tug Capsized

Tug Capsized

The 19 ton tug KitaMaru No. 12 capsized while assisting the Japan Coast Guard cutter Miura at Wajima, Japan.  The Kita Maru No. 12 was one of two tugs pulling the Miura from a quay when it capsized.   The two men on board were thrown into the water.   Reports state both men had drowned before rescuers could reach them.   Conditions at the time had 6 to 9 foot waves and 20 mph winds in the area.
