On the evening of February 3, the 18 meter long fishing vessel Musse SK961 (MMSI: 219028081) caught fire in the Kattegat 18 miles east of Skagen, Denmark. Authorities received an alert the vessel was on fire and launched a search and rescue operation. Both a rescue lifeboat and helicopter were deployed and arrived on scene to find the Musse unmanned and engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the one person on the Musse had already been rescued by a nearby vessel. The 16.5 meter long, 36 gt lifeboat Lars Kruse (IMO: 9217515) would later arrive on scene and use its fire fighting equipment to contain the blaze. The Musse would later drift into Swedish waters where Swedish rescue service took over fire fighting efforts. After many hours, the fire appeared to be extinguished.

While the fishing vessel was gutted by the fire, it was still afloat. Reports state the Musse was still afloat and towed back to Skagen where the fire reignited spewing out smoke. The fire fighters boarded the vessel and completely extinguish the blaze.  No reports of injuries.

On the afternoon of December 2, the 19 meter long, 68 gt fishing vessel FN 267 Emilie (MMSI: 219001917) ran aground in the Kattegat at the outer breakwater at Skagen, Denmark. The DSRS dispatched a lifeboat to assist and found the trawler sitting up on the rocks. Initial attempts to pull the FN 267 Emilie free were unsuccessful.  A tugboat and another trawler were ready to assist in pulling the vessel free when the FN 267 Emilie slipped off the breakwater. The fishing vessel proceeded into Skagen. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The extent of damage was not disclosed.

STENA GERMANICA

On October 22, 240 meter long, 10670 dwt ro-ro passenger ferry Stena Germanica caught fire in the Kattegat near Anholt, Denmark. The fire started in a camper on the vehicle deck while  en route to Kiel from Gothenburg with 700 passengers on board. The crew assembled the passengers on deck and alerted authorities that a fire had broken out on the vessel.  A team of fire fighters were about to be flown to the Stena Germanica when the crew was able to the extinguish the blaze. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Stena Germanica continued on with its voyage and arrived in Kiel.
