Sward

On the morning of August 8, the 100 meter long, 8501 dwt cargo vessel Sward (IMO: 9174244) became disabled in the Istanbul strait near the breakwater off Haydarpaşa, Turkey. The Sward was headed for Yemen from Zonguldak when it suffered a mechanical breakdown and went adrift. The vessel contacted authorities with KEGM dispatching two tugs to the scene. The tugs Kurtarma 5 (IMO: 9463164) and Kurtarma 7 (IMO: 9598608) which took the Sward under tow.  The vessels proceeded to the Ahırkapı Anchorage where the cargo vessel safely moored. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On the evening of  July 14, the 108 meter long, 7601 dwt cargo vessel Spanaco Progress (IMOI: 9306433) became disabled while traversing the Dardanelles off Gallipoli, Turkey. The Spanaco Progress had suffered engine failure and went adrift.  Authorities were alerted and dispatched the KEGM tugs Kurtarma 3 (IMO: 9335939) and Kurtarma 19 (IMO: 9995129) to assist. The tugs were able to connect a towline and the vessels proceeded to Şevketiye where the vessel dropped anchor.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On June 29, the 186 meter long, 36903 dwt bulk carrier Angy R (IMO: 9530955) ran aground in the Sea of Marmara near Gaziköy, Tekirdağ, Turkey. The Angy R was headed to Bejaia from Constanta when it stranded.  The bulk carrier alerted Turkish authorities for assistance.  The KEGM dispatched the tugs Kurtarma 9 (IMO: 9598581) and Kurtarma 17 (IMO: 9942990)  to assist.  The tugs were able to refloat the Angy R and proceeded to tow the bulk carrier to an anchorage off Tekirdağ.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The cause of the grounding was not disclosed.
