On September 24, the 64 meter long 595 dwt ro-ro passenger ship Ariburnu (IMO: 8850683) caught fire in the Black Sea near Şile, Turkey. The Ariburnu was en route to Zonguldak from Kumkapi when a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room.  Unable to contain the blaze, the crew sent out a distress call for assistance.  Authorities dispatched the tug Kurtarma-12 and the rescue boat KEGM-5 to the scene. Reports state that fire fighting efforts continued through out the night through the next day until the fire could be contained.  The Ariburnu sustained extensive damage in the engine room and much of its superstructure.

The following day the Ariburnu was taken under tow by the tug Mehmetcik to Karadeniz Ereğli, Turkey.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On September 16, the 26 meter long, 126 gt tugboat Esenkiyi (IMO: 7434858) became disabled in the Dardanelles near Çanakkale, Turkey. The Esenkiyi was enroute to Bodrum from Ordu with a barge under tow when it suffered a power blackout and engine failure.  The tug contacted authorities who dispatched the tugs Kurtarma 15 and Türkeli to assist. The tugs took the Esenkiyi and the barge under tow to Şevketiye where it dropped anchor.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On September 9, the 118 meter long, 3721 dwt cargo vessel Sormovskiy 3063 (IMO: 8702240) became disabled on the Dardanelles off the coast of Kepez, Turkey. The Sormovskiy 3063 was en route to Russia from Mersin when it suffered a breakdown and main engine failure. Authorities dispatched the tugs Kurtarma 13 and Türkeli to assist. The tugs took the Sormovskiy 3063  under tow and proceeded to an anchorage off Çanakkale.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.
