On October 15, the 134 meter long, 13,045 dwt cement carrier Blue Ciment 1 (IMO: 9372640) ran aground on the Bosporus near Anadolu Hisarı, Turkey.  The Blue Ciment 1 was en route to Zonguldak from Brevik when it suffered engine failure on the Bosporus. The cement carrier went adrift in the current until it ran aground. Authorities dispatched two tugs which were able to pull the Blue Ciment 1 free. The vessels proceeded to an anchorage in the Black Sea where the Blue Ciment 1 will undergo repairs. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On October 12, the 7050 dwt cargo vessel B Line (IMO: 1062158) became disabled on the Bosphorus near Akıntıburnu, Turkey.  The B Line was headed for Burgas from Haifa when it suffered a power blackout after main engine failure. The vessel requested assistance with authorities dispatching the tug Kurtarma 5 to the scene.  The Kurtarma 5 took the B Line under tow and proceeded to an anchorage off Ahirkapi where it will undergo repairs. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On September 24, the 64 meter long 595 dwt ro-ro passenger ship Ariburnu (IMO: 8850683) caught fire in the Black Sea near Şile, Turkey. The Ariburnu was en route to Zonguldak from Kumkapi when a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room.  Unable to contain the blaze, the crew sent out a distress call for assistance.  Authorities dispatched the tug Kurtarma-12 and the rescue boat KEGM-5 to the scene. Reports state that fire fighting efforts continued through out the night through the next day until the fire could be contained.  The Ariburnu sustained extensive damage in the engine room and much of its superstructure.

The following day the Ariburnu was taken under tow by the tug Mehmetcik to Karadeniz Ereğli, Turkey.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.
