Collision at Gornsdorf

Coburg

The 86 meter long self-propelled barge Coburg collided with the 48 meter long passenger ship Renate in the Gordnsdorf Lock on the Main-Danube Canal at Kelheim, Germany. The Cobug, loaded with 940 tonnes of fertilizer, struck the stern of the Renate. One of the 291 passengers on board the Renate was injured and taken to hospital in Kelheim for treatment. The Renate suffered some damage to its stern and  had several divers inspect the hull before it was allow to continue with its voyage. The Coburg had only slight damage and continued its voyage from Regensburg to Nuremberg. The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 80 meter long, 1315 mt self-propelled barge Vela Dare collided with another barge on the Main-Danube Canal . One of the barges had entered the Dietfurt lock when the other approached at too high of speed and struck the stern of the first. No reports of injuries. Both vessels sustained damage estimated around several thousand euros. The Velda Dare proceeded to Kelheim.

The 110 meter long self-propelled car tranport vessel Kelheim became disabled on the Danube River near Vienna, Austria.  The Kelheim had suffered an engine failure while proceeding upstream and had to drop anchor to avoid going adrift.   The Kelheim, with 100 small cars on board, blocked traffic on the river until another vessel later pulled the Kelheim into the harbour at Racklau.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
