The 28 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Hochdonn collided with the 90 meter long, 4539 dwt cargo vessel Scheldebank on the Kiel Canal in Hochdonn, Germany.  The ferry was struck by the Scheldebank in dense fog resulting in heavy damage to the port side of Hochdonn. A vehicle on the ferry was also damaged. The Scheldebank had slight damage to its bow.  No one was injured on either vessel. The Hochdonn was taken out of service and replaced with another ferry.

The water police have not reported the cause of the collision. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On April 2, the 90 meter long, 4500 dwt cargo vessel Ronja allided with the northern lock on the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The Ronja was en route to Sczcecin from Figueira da Foz when it struck the lock gate. The vessel was detained by the water police at Brunsbüttel for an hour until it was allowed to continue on its voyage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

CONTAINERSHIPS VI

The 155 meter long, 13520 dwt container ship Containerships VI allided with lock wall in the Kiel Canal at Brunsbüttel, Germany. The vessel was proceeding through the southern lock when strong winds caused the port stern to strike the middle wall in the lock. The Containerships VI sustained minimal damage and was allowed to continue on its voyage from Rotterdam to Helsinki. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
