The 150 meter long, 10600 dwt container ship Bernhard Schepers ran aground in the Kiel Canal near Schwartenberg, Germany.  The Bernhard Schepers had steered too close to the southern embankment and became stuck.  The boxship remained aground for several hours forcing the canal to be closed until the vessel could be refloated. The Bernhard Schepers was refloated and proceeded to Fredericia where it berthed and inspected for damage.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Collision on Kiel Canal

Collision on Kiel Canal

Three vessels collided in dense fog passing through the Kiel Canal near Fischerhütte, Germany. The 89 meter long tanker Kösterberg, the 100 meter long cargo vessel Grona Aalsum and the 131 meter long  cargo vessel Prince of Seas scraped against each other as the passed in the fog.  The Kösterberg was pushed onto pilings along the embankment.  Neither of the three vessels sustained any damage.  The Kösterberg proceeded to Kiel to be surveyed while the Gorna Aalsum and Prince of Seas arrived in Brunsbüttel to be inspected.  All the vessels were allowed to proceed on the voyages a short time later.
