CT Longford

CT Longford

The 117 meter long, 10303 dwt tanker CT Longford allided with the pier at Brunsbüttel, Germany.   The tanker had locked into the Kiel Canal with 8000 tons of ethanol cargo when it suddenly veered off course striking the pier.   The pier sustained damage with portions of the pilings left submerged while the CT Longford suffered damage to its bow.   No reports of injuries and no pollution was released.  The tanker berthed nearby to allow divers to inspect the hull.   The water police have launched an investigation into the incident.  Reports state the cause of the accident may have been a control malfunction.

Hanse Courage

Hanse Courage

The 140 meter long container ship Hanse Courage became disabled in the Kiel Canal after passing through the Brunsbuettel locks.   The Hanse Courage had suffered engine problems,  but reached Fischerhutte where it requested assistance.   A tug arrived on scene and assisted the Hanse Courage towards Kiel.  When the vessels reached Oldenbuettel, the Hanse Courage required additional assistance with a second tug requested.   The trio reached Rendsburg where the Hanse Courage berthed.  The crew was able to make repairs and the container ship proceeded through the canal reaching the Baltic Sea.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
