The 101 meter long, 5207 dwt container ship Conger ran aground on the Kiel Canal near Breiholz, Germany.  The Conger had suffered steering failure causing the vessel to run into the embankment.  A tug refloated the Conger and both vessels proceeded to a quay at Kiel to be inspected for damage.  Reports state the vessel was able to make repairs and allow was allowed to proceed the following day.  The vessel continued on its way to Soedertalje, Sweden.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

The 90 meter long, 4450 dwt freighter Damsterdijk became disabled in the Kiel Canal after leaving Holtenau Lock. The vessel had suffered engine failure and the crew were unable to restart the engine. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The Damsterdijk was towed to Rendsburg, Germany.
