The 200 meter long, 37384 dwt bulk freighter Pochard became disabled after suffering engine failure while proceeding along the Kiel Canal. The crew were unable to restart the engine and requested a tow to Kiel, Germany. At Kiel, the engine was fixed and the vessel resume its voyage to St. Petersburg, Russia from Dunkerque. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
The 33 meter long, 47 dwt ferry Heikendorf ran aground near Kiel, Germany. The ferry was approaching a pier at Friedrichsort when it suffered a technical fault allowing the vessel to run aground onto a sandbar. The 75 passengers on board were transferred to another ferry. A tug was able to refloat the Heikendorf and towed it to Kiel to be inspected. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
The 176 meter long, 16450 dwt container ship Rijnborg suffered damage to its gearing while proceeding in the Kiel Canal near Ostermoor, Germany. The Rijnborg was able to proceed to Hamburg where it unloaded its cargo and went to a shipyard for repairs. No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
