Tanker Strikes Embankment

The 110 meter long tanker MTS Youri struck the embankment along the Noord River near the 982 kilometer mark.  The tanker was heading upstream when it approached a sharp bend in the river when it struck.   The KNRM responded sending a lifeboat to the scene.   Reports state the vessel was able to proceed to dock at a nearby wharf with the vessel’s bow full of mud.   There was poor visibility due to fog at the time of the incident.   No injuries or pollution was released.

Stephanie Z-45 Aground

Stephanie Z-45 Aground

The 38 meter long trawler Stephanie Z-45 went aground on a sandbank near Den Helder, Netherlands.   The trawler was using outdated charts which led to the vessel going aground on the sand bank.   The KNRM lifeboat from Den Helder responded to the scene.   The lifeboat after a few attempts was able to release the Stephanie Z-45.   The trawler proceeded to Den Helder under its own power for inspection.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

KW2 Astrid Disabled

KW2 Astrid Disabled

The 10 meter long trawler KW-2 Astrid became disabled off Scheveningen, Netherlands after a pipe in the cooling system broke.   The broken pipe allowed seawater to flow into the engine room.   The crew contacted the KNRM who dispatched the lifeboat to the scene.   The lifeboat took the Astrid under tow back to Scheveningen.   None of the 2 crew on the Astrid were injured.
