The 97 meter long ro-ro ferry Trondheim ran aground near Krokeide, Norway.   The Trondheim departed Austevoll with 72 passengers and five crew on a scheduled voyage.  As the ferry was approaching the piers at Krokeide, it suffered engine failure.   The vessel was unable to slow down so the master steered the Trondheim away from the piers to avoid an allision, but grounded on the opposite side of the waterway.   Passengers reported a loud thud as the ferry struck bottom, but there was no panic on board.    No reports of injuries or pollution released.   The passengers were later safely evacuated.   The ferry was later towed to the nearby quay.   Divers were requested to make an inspection of the hull for any possible damage.
