Mandy Ness
The 44 foot long fishing vessel Mandy Ness capsized off Long Beach Island, New Jersey. The vessel’s emergency beacon alerted the Coast Guard who dispatched a 47-foot rescue boat to the scene. The fishing vessel Frances Anne also responded to the scene. The Frances Anne rescued one crewman. The Coast Guard recovered another crewman however he was unresponsive and did not survive. The surviving crew stated the two men on board when something may have struck the fishing vessel causing it to capsize. The men found themselves trapped in the cabin with just a foot of air. Both men attempted to swim through a knocked out window, but only one reached the surface. The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident. Reports state the weather was moderate with winds under 20 mph and one meter waves.
