The 105 meter long self-propelled barge Karola went aground on the Rhine River near Trechtingshausen, Germany.   The Karola had suffered steering failure when the rudder became stuck causing the vessel to veer off course.   The Karola suffered some damage to its forepeak with water ingress into the anchor chain hold.   Another vessel assisted in securing the Karola while the crew attempted to dewater the forepeak.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  A lighter barge arrived the next day to help with refloating the vessel.   The Karola was en route to Mannheim from Rotterdam with 1829 tons of steel plates.
