Utility Vessel Sunk

 

The 120 foot long,  85 gt utility vessel Int’l Hunter sank off the Sabine Jetties, Lousiana.  The vessel had struck a submerged object and sank sending the seven crew to the liferafts.   The men were rescued an hour later and safely landedin Cameron, Lousiana.  No injuries reported.  The Coast Guard confirms that some pollution was released.   A sheen from diesel fuel was spotted and an oil recovery vessel was dispatched to the scene.   The owners of the Int’l Hunter have issued a plan to salvage the vessel.

Barge Allision

Barge Allision

A barge being towed by two towing vessels, the 65-foot Shannan C (Imo 8991724) and 22 meter long Portier I, allided with the Highway 90 Bridge over Chef Menteur Pass which connects Lake Pontchartrain to Lake Borgne near New Orleans, Louisiana.  The barge caused considerable damage to the bridge forcing officials to close the bridge to vehicle and marine traffic.   Estimates place the cost of damage near $100,000.    The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.
