On the afternoon of December 10, the 110 meter long self-propelled barge Nautila (MMSI: 211179370) ran aground on the Main River near Karlstadt, Germany. The Nautila wad departing from port with 2000 tons of cement clinker and was proceeding into the river shipping channel when it touched bottom. The barge then swung perpendicular to the river as it was being pulled by the current. The vessel drifted until it became stuck aground. The Nautila sustained some damage to its rudder, but no reports of injuries or pollution released.

The Nautila remained stuck on the river and need assistance to be freed. Both a tug and icebreaker were able to finally move the Nautila the following day on their fifth attempt. Reports state traffic remains halted until the area can be checked for obstructions.

The 105 meter long self-propelled barge Walhalla ran aground on the River Main near Würzburg, Germany. The Walhalla was en route to Neuss from Würzburg when the vessel made a navigation error while passing under a bridge. Taking the wrong path, the Walhalla ran aground in shallow water.  Authorities were alerted and found the Walhalla had sustained no damage. A workboat was requested and was able to release the Walhalla later the same day.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On April 9, the 135 meter long passenger ship Amaverde collided with another river passenger ship on the Main River near Eltmann, Germany. The Amaverde was on a cruise from Nurnberg to Budapest with 160 passengers. While en route to Bamberg, the Amaverde struck head-on with the other passenger ship while passing under the Eltmanner Road Bridge. Both vessels sustained damage in the bow estimated to be over 10,000 Euros. No pollution released.

The Amaverde proceeded a short distance and evacuated all 160 passengers on board. Passengers were later picked up by coaches. No reports of injuries.  Authorities later fined the master of the Amaverde for illegally unloading passengers. Reports state the damage was limited and the Amaverde proceeded on to Bamberg.  Passengers had embarked and the vessel continued on its planned voyage to Erlangen.
