Bayang

The 1612 gt ro-ro cargo freighter Bayang allided with the barge Asian Roger in Manila Bay near Tondo, Philippines.  The Bayang’s anchor had dragged in the rough seas caused by Typhoon Gener.  The ro-ro was pushed by the waves until it struck into the anchored barge.   The Bayang’s hull suffered a two foot hole allowing water ingress.   The Bayang quickly flooded and partially sank with the hull resting on the bottom.  No details to whether the Asian Roger suffered any damages in the collision.   No reports of injuries from either vessel.   The Philippine Coast Guard requested the owner of the Bayang to place a boom around the vessel to contain any possible pollution released.

Collision in Manila Bay

The 175 meter long, 22183 dwt container ship Prosper collided with the barge Jupiter 333 in Manila Bay near Mariveles, Bataan, Philippines.  The Prosper’s bow struck the barge causing it to capsize.  The crew on board the Jupiter 333 were forced into the water, but were quickly rescued.  No reports of injuires.  The Prosper’s bow suffered some damage above the waterline from the collision.  The Jupiter 333 was last reported as sunk or partially submerged in 40 meters of water.  The Jupiter 333 was carrying 1050 tons of soybeans under the tow of the tug Stargate to Manila from Subic.  The Philippine Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
