On December 31, the 55 meter long, 882 dwt cargo vessel Yakup Aga ran aground in the Marmara Sea near Tuzla, Turkey. As with the Guneyin, the Yakup Aga had been at anchor when rough weather struck the area. Strong winds caused the cargo ship’s anchor to drag and the vessel drifted ashore. Tugs were dispatched and were able to refloat the Yakup Aga and towed the cargo vessel to Kartal. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On November 9, the 79 meter long, 2182 dwt cargo vessel Mina I ran aground in the Marmara Sea off Maltepe, Turkey. The Mina I had been an anchor when strong winds by a storm caused the anchor to drag. The cargo vessel drifted until it ran up onto an embankment along the coast. No reports of injuries.  Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

 

Platres

The 114 meter long, 8847 dwt bulk carrier Platres collided with the 79 meter long, 2300 dwt cargo vessel Tashin in the Marmara Sea off Istanbul, Turkey.  The Platres was en route to Mariupol when it was doing a maneuver toberth when it struck the Tashin.  Both vessels suffered hull damage and water ingress, but there was no pollution released. The Tashin remained at anchorage, but the Platres was able to continue its voyage.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
