The 50 foot fishing vessel Elizabeth Ann suffered a fire in it’s engine room while off Gloucester, Massachusetts.   The crew contacted the Coast Guard that the vessel was on fire, but soon were forced from the wheelhouse due to the thick black smoke.    This cutoff the two man crew from the fire extinguishers and communication gear.   Two nearby vessels heard the distress call responded to the scene.  Using the fire extinguishers from these vessels, the crew of the Elizabeth Ann were able to contain the fire until the Coast Guard 47 foot lifeboat reached the scene.  The fire was later extinguished and the Elizabeth Ann was taken under tow back to Gloucester.   No reports of injuries.

Captain Joe

Captain Joe

The 81 foot fishing vessel Captain Joe became disabled while off Cape Ann, Massachusetts.   The Captain Joe’s crew discovered that the vessel was taking on water with 6 feet in the bilge.  The crew contacted the Coast Guard for assistance.   The Coast Guard launched a 47-foot lifeboat along with a Jayhawk helicopter to the scene.  The helicopter reached the scene and lowered a dewatering pump to the trawler.  The lifeboat then escorted the Captain Joe back to Gloucester.   No reports of injuries of the four men on board the fishing vessel.

Don’t Add Water to Cocktails…

Don’t Add Water to Cocktails…

The 100 foot long motor yacht Cocktails struck the Great Ledge off Little Harbor along Cape Cod’s southern shore.   The Cocktails was travelling from Woods Hole when it struck the rock.   The yacht began to flood as the pumps barely kept up with the water ingress.   The crew decided to beach the vessel on Nobska Beach so that temporary repairs could be made.   Upon inspection, the yacht’s hull was left with a 4 by 20 inch hole in its port side.   Salvage vessels, three patrol boats from Falmouth along with two Coast Guard vessels were at the scene.    A temporary repair was made and the yacht is to be towed to Fairhaven where it will be hauled out of the water for repairs.    No reports of injury or pollution being released.   The Cocktails usually charters between $42,500 to $45,000 per week.
