On January 3, the 95 foot long fishing vessel Megan Marie became disabled off Nantucket, Massachusetts. The Megan Marie had lost a rudder some 100 nautical miles off Nantucket and sent out a distress call. Another fishing vessel came to her aid and began towing the Megan Marie back to port, but rough seas broke the tow line.  The Coast Guard Cutter Spencer took over the tow and proceeded to Nantucket. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On November 6, the 28 foot long fishing vessel Dawn Breaker caugh fire off Plum Island near Ipswich, Massachusetts. The Dawn Breaker was pulling in lobster traps when a fire broke out in the wheelhouse. The captain, the single person on board, donned an emergency suit and was forced to jump into the sea to escape the blaze. Another vessel was able to rescue him a short time later. The Dawn Breaker burned  until the lobster boat sank.

On October 31, the 79 foot long fishing vessel Orion became disabled off Cape Ann, Massachusetts. The trawler had suffered a mechanical fault causing engine failure. The Orion sent out a distress call with the Coast Guard responding. The Coast Guard dispatched the cutter Key Largo to the scene. The cutter was able to pass a line and began towing the Orion back to Gloucester.  A few hours later, another fishing vessel took over the tow. Both fishing vessels reach Gloucester safely.  No reports of injuries to the 5 crew of the Orion, damage or pollution released.
