The 139 meter long, 3343 dwt heavy lift vessel Titan II caught fire while moored some 500 meters off the coast of Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, Mexico. The Titan II had been idle for over 2 years when smoke was spotted rising from the deck. Reports state the vessel had been vandalized by several people who boarded the vessel stealing pieces of iron off the vessel.  No reports of any crew person on board the vessel at the time.  No details reported if any local authorities responded to the fire or if any pollution was released.

The fishing vessel Adriana M caught fire south of Chacahua Bay, Oaxaca, Mexico.  The fire started during the early morning hours and quickly spread through the vessel’s superstructure. The 24 crew on board the Adriana M sent out a distress call and shot flares before escaping into life rafts. As the fire consumed the tuna boat, the 183 meter long tanker Centenario headed to the scene.  The tanker rescued all 24 crew along with 2 dogs from the Adriana M. and proceeded to Salina Cruz.  The cause of the fire was not reported.  No reports of injuries.

On March 13, the 50 meter long, 581 gt supply vessel Leigh River sank in the Gulf of Mexico some 55 miles off Veracruz, Mexico. The vessel had sprung a leak in the engine room which overwhelmed the Leigh River’s pumps. Unable to control the flooding, the crew sent out a distress call.  Authorities dispatched a helicopter to the scene while the 190 meter long bulk carrier Sredna Gora diverted to the scene. The helicopter arrived to find all eight crew of the Leigh River safely abandon ship and transfer over to the Sredna Gora.  No reports of injuries.

Reports state the Leigh River later sank. No further details reported.
