The 100 meter long, 8874 dwt container ship Everton caught fire in the Mozambique Channel near Sofala, Mozambique.   The fire started in the engine room and quickly consumed the vessel’s superstructure including the bridge.   The fire disabled the Everton, but the 12 crew on board were safely evacuated.   Three tugs were dispatched to the scene and took the vessel under tow.   The Everton was en route to Pemba, Mozambique, to Mitsamudu, Comoros.

The 199 meter long, 34362 dwt container ship Gemini went aground near Beira, Mozambique.   The Gemini was departing Beira when it grounded.   The container ship was able to be refloated overnight and returned to harbour.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   Divers will inspect the hull for damage.

Jin Fu

Jin Fu

The 190 meter long, 50700 dwt freighter Jin Fu went aground at  Maputo, Mozambique.  The Jin Fu was leaving Maputo with a cargo of coal when it struck a sandbank.  The freighter will be lightered several thousand tons of coal before attempting to refloat the vessel. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.
