Karanna

The 37 foot long fishing vessel Karanna went aground near Neah Bay, Washington.   The crewman at the wheel had fallen asleep allowing the vessel to run aground just shy of the cliff-faced shoreline.  The three men on board contacted the Coast Guard requesting assistance.    The Coast Guard dispatched the 47-foot lifeboat to the scene, but was unable reach the fishing vessel which was resting in too shallow of water.   The three crew swam to the lifeboat safely.   No reports of injuries.   The Karanna had suffered some water ingress, but stayed afloat.   Reports state no fuel leaked and there was no pollution released.   Salvage efforts will begin when weather permits.
