On the morning of March 19, the 80 meter long self-propelled barge Lavoro (MMSI: 244850073) became disabled on the Western Scheldt east of Terneuzen, Netherlands. Reports state the Lavoro suffered engine problems and went adrift. The 135 meter long self-propelled container barge Salamanca (MMSI: 244821242) was nearby and secured the Lavoro. The 32.5 meter long tugboat Multratug 28  (IMO: 9727962) arrived a short time later and took the Lavoro under tow to Hansweert. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On the morning of February 16, the 86 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Florida (IMO: 9646534) became disabled on Beneden-Merwede near Dordrecht, Netherlands. A fire was reported when smoke could be seen from the vessel’s engine room. The local fire brigade was alerted and deployed a fire boat assisted by the KNRM and the Rijkswaterstaat. After inspecting the Florida, fire fighters found there was no flames and the smoke had been caused by the main engine breaking down.

The Florida was travelling without cargo.  No reports of injuries.  Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On the afternoon of February 18, the 86 meter long self-propelled container barge Levante (MMSI: 244700816) allided on the Meuse River near Lith, Netherlands. The Levante was on a voyage from Nifrik to Rotterdam when it struck the lock gates on the larger lock at Lith. Reports state the lock gates were seriously damage and the lock was taken out of service to be assessed. No details were provided to the extent of damage on the Levante.

No reports of injuries or pollution released. Authorities state that the smaller lock is still open to traffic but limited to vessels under 114 meters long and 7 meters in height. The cause of the allision has not been disclosed.
