The 183 meter long self-propelled container-barge Vision caught fire on the Rhine off Millingen, Netherlands. The vessel was en route to Frankfurt, Germany with a deck loaded with empty containers when a fire broke out in the engine room. The five crew were able to escape the heavy smoke and flames.  Reports state the blaze was finally extinguished a few hours later. Damage to the engine room was extensive leaving the vessel disabled. Authorities arrived on scene to monitor the situation. No reports of injuries, but authorities suggested nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed due to the stench from the smoke released.

On August 2, the 38 meter long crane barge Liesveld sank on the Eem River between Hoogland and Soest, Netherlands. The Liesveld had been moored along a quay when it flooded on its port side. An excavator on the deck fell overboard and some oil and diesel fuel was released into the water. Authorities placed booms around the Liesveld to contain any pollution. No reports of injuries.  The cause of the flooding was not reported.

The 45 meter long fishing vessel Soli Deo Gloria – PH 63 caught fire while berthed in Urk, Netherlands. The fire started in the fish hold while the vessel was undergoing renovation. The crew attempted to contain the blaze, but were driven back. The local fire brigade was alerted and was able to extinguish the blaze quickly. Some crew suffered from minor smoke inhalation, but did not require hospitalization.
