The 86 meter long meter long self-propelled barge Sympathie struck the span of the Borg Bridge on the Ems Canal in Groningen, Netherlands.  The Sympathie was proceeding in dense fog when it struck the bridge.  The bridge sustained significant damage and was pushed out of alignment. The Sympathie also sustained severe damage to its bow.  Local authorities launched an investigation into the incident.  Reports state the master had not request the span of the bridge to be raised.  With no visibility, the master assumed the bridge span was open.

The 90 meter long general cargo vessel Leonie ran aground just outside the port of Delfzijl, Netherlands. Three tugs were dispatched and were able to pull the Leonie free on the rising tide.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 23 meter long fishing vessel Elisabeth ran aground in the North Sea near Den Oever, Netherlands.  The crew found the fishing vessel had stranded on a sand bank and requested assistance. The Callanstoog KNRM dispatched their lifeboat to the scene.  However, the starboard engine failed on the Callanstoog lifeboat.  The lifeboat from Den Helder was nearby and was able to respond to the scene.  The Den Helder lifeboat found the rough seas and the fishing boat’s gear prevented the lifeboat from providing assistance.  The lifeboat stood by to monitor the situation. Fortunately, the the Elisabeth was able to refloat itself with the rising tide .  No reports of injuries to the 2 crew on the Elisabeth, damage or pollution released.
