The 67 meter long self-propelled barge Risico collided with a dredge on a canal near Buitenkaag, Netherlands.  The hull of the Risico was damaged with a 30 cm hole above the waterline.  No reports of injuries.  The Risico’s fuel tank was ruptured and the vessel released 1000 litres of diesel fuel into the canal.  A 900 meter long sheen developed around the vessel before the leak could be patched.   Authorities placed booms to contain the pollution.  Clean up efforts should take a few days to complete.

Maria

The 42 meter long, 438 gt fishing vessel Vertrouwen TX 68 collided with the 35 meter long, 154 gt offshore support vessel Maria in the North Sea off Den Helder, Netherlands.  The Maria sank after the collision in rests in water 25 to 30 meters deep.  Two of the five crew on board were rescued.   Three men were reported missing.   Divers went dispatched as it possible that the crewmen were trapped inside, but an inspection found that all five men were able to abandon ship.  Three KNRM  lifeboats, Coast Guard aircraft along with other commerical vessels have join in the search for the missing crewmen.  The cause of the collision was not reported.  More on Dutch Coastguard and KNRM

VOLTA

The 85 meter long self-propelled tanker Volta went aground on the Lek while between Vianen and Nieuwegein.   The Volta had suffered engine failure and went aground in shallow water near the main fairway.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The vessel will refloat itself on the next high tide after the engine repaired.
