Searose Fpso

The 271 meter long, 139950 dwt tankship Searose Fpso suffered a fire near St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.  The fire broke out in the vessel’s water pump room and was quickly contained by the crew.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   Details to the fire damage was not disclosed, but the crew were able to remain on board.  The Searose Fpso had no oil on board at the time of the incident.   The vessel had recently returned to the oil field after undergoing maintenance earlier this summer.   The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 52 meter long r0-ro ferry Beaumont Hamel allided with the dock at Portugal Cove, Newfoundland, Canada.  The ferry had completed a crossing from Bell Island with around 100 persons on board when it struck the dock.   The ferry suffered a significant dent on the bow door.   Two passengers suffered injuries and was taken to hospital.   Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.   Initial reports state the Beaumont Hamel had suffered a mechanical failure when it attempted to slow its approach to the dock by reversing the propulsion.

Atlantic Endeavour Aground

The 55 foot long fishing vessel Atlantic Endeavour was blown ashore near Cow HeadNewfoundland.  The fishing vessel was caught in a severe storm with 40 knot winds and 4 meter high waves.   The two crew on board sent out a distress call as the vessel struck a rocky shoal and began to take on water.   The men took to the life raft tethered to the vessel waiting for rescue.   Authorities dispatched a helicopter to the scene who winched the two men to safety.   No reports of injuries.
