Jie Hai 189

On January 6, the 48 meter long cargo vessel Jie Hai 189 collided and sank in Hangzhou Bay near Ningbo, China. Reports state the coaster had been struck by another vessel and quickly sank. Only a single crewman out of 5 on board was rescued. The other 4 crew were listed as missing. No further details reported.

On April 6, the 97 meter long cargo vessel Da Pu Jiang sank off Zhejiang Province, China. The cargo vessel was headed for Wufu from Caofeidian when it sank in waters near Ningbo, China.

Authorities launched a search and rescue operation.  A rescue vessel and arrived to find 10 of the 13 crew on board had been able to abandoned ship into the vessel’s life raft. A helicopter located two more crew men in the water and hoisted them to safety. Rescuers later discovered the body of the remaining crewman in the water.

The cause of the sinking has not been disclosed.

COSCO Fukuyama

The 260 meter long, 50622 dwt container ship COSCO Fukuyama collided with the 150 meter long, 19098 dwt tanker Gao Cheng 2 in the Xiashimen Channel off Ningbo, China. The Gao Cheng 2 bow struck the portside of the COSCO Fukuyama. The Gao Cheng 2 sustained bow damage, but was able to proceed to Zhoushan under its own power. The COSCO Fukuyama had its hull breached resulting in water ingress. Some containers were also damaged during the collision, but no reports of injuries or pollution released. The COSCO Fukuyama was able to control the flooding and proceeded to a nearby anchorage. Reports state the boxship will enter a shipyard at Zhoushan for repairs.
