Collision off Wadden Islands

The 37 meter long fishing vessel Jurie van den Berg collided with the 160 meter long, 13154 dwt offshore jack-up vessel Pacific Orca in the North Sea off the Wadden Islands, Netherlands.  The Pacific Orca was underway to an offshore windfarm while the Jurie van den Berg was returning to Eemshaven.  The fishing vessel sustained damage to its starboard hull along with its mast and boom.  The Pacific Orca had minor damage to its forepeak with dents and scratches above the waterline.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.  Both vessels were able to proceed back to port under their own power.

Southern Star

The 10 meter long fishing vessel Southern Star P31 sank in the North Sea off Dunwich, Suffolk, England.  The crew of the Southern Star were just able to alert the Thames Coastguard as the vessel suffered massive water ingress in the engine compartment.  The uncontrolled flooding just took a few minutes to sink the Southern Star.  The crew of three were able to abandoned ship into the vessel’s life raft.  The Thames Coastguard sent out rescue vessels along with two RNLI lifeboats to the scene.  The Southern Star crew were spotted and recovered by the fishing vessel, Mistress Three.  The crew was later transferred to the Southwold lifeboat.  No reports of injuries.  Reports state the Southern Star had departed from Lowestoft and had suffered a mechanical problem before it sank.

Maria GO 20

The 39 meter long fishing vessel Maria GO 20 went aground near Stellendam, Netherlands. The fishing vessel was coming in from the North Sea to seek shelter from the heavy seas and strong winds when it grounded in the Slijkgat.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Stellendam KNRM lifeboat responded to scene.  The lifeboat’s first attempt to refloat the Maria failed.  The lifeboat waited a few hours until the rising tide and was able to refloat the Maria.  The Maria was later inspected for damage.
