The 18 meter long, 83 gt towboat Ed McLaughlin capsized and sank on the Ohio River near Cheshire, Ohio. The towboat was near mile marker 259 when it lost stability and capsized.  All three crewmen on board the Ed McLaughlin were able to abandon ship before the towboat sank.  The crew were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.  The Coast Guard reports the Ed McLaughlin had some 4900 gallons of diesel fuel on board at the time of the sinking.  A response team was on scene and is monitoring the situation.  A light sheen has been spotted in the river suggesting some fuel has leaked from the Ed McLaughlin.  The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 193 meter long, 29135 dwt bulk carrier Great Republic allided a dock on the Cuyahoga River at Cleveland Ohio. The vessel had just entered the river when it sideswiped a dock. The bulk carrier was undamaged, but reports state the dock sustained some damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The 30 meter long towboat Austin C. Settoon allided with Racine Locks and Dam on the Ohio River near Meigs County, Ohio. The Austin C. Settoon was proceeding with three barges loaded with heating oil when one barge broke free at the lock chamber.  The towboat and the remaining two barges were pulled by the current and pushed up against the dam.

No reports of injuries and no reports of damage to the vessel or dam.  All three barges remain intact and no pollution was released. The Austin C. Settoon and barges will be pull free when the river level recedes the following day.
